Universal Avionics Cofounder Retires

Universal Avionics Systems Corp. of Tucson, Ariz., announced that Charles Edmondson, one of the founders of the company along with the late Hubert Naimer, has retired.

The two men founded the company in Torrance, Calif., in 1980. As executive vice president, Edmondson had responsibility for Universal Avionics’ worldwide operations.

More recently, he served as senior corporate vice president and as a member of the board of directors. He also served on the board of GAMA and was active with NBAA, AEA and other aviation organizations.

Edmondson was instrumental in moving the company to Tucson in 1987, when it had just 18 employees. Today, it has more than 600 employees in several domestic and international facilities and generates annual sales of more than $100 million.
