When BaySys Technologies, a completion and refurbishment center, decided to expand last year, the site selected was far from its headquarters in the sleepy Eastern Shore town of Onancock, Va. The new site, BaySys West, a 70,000-sq-ft facility in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains of California, opened for business six months ago.

Included on site are backshops for cabinetry and upholstery. An adjacent paint shop operated by AeroPro is an out-source for exterior paint.

BaySys West had a Part 145 repair station certification well before it opened for business. The line maintenance capabilities list includes most of the Airbus and Boeing fleets, and the hangars will accommodate two Boeing 747s simultaneously or six Boeing 737s.

The facility opened its doors to a backlog of work–a couple of Boeing 737-300s and a Boeing 747SP. All were refurbishments, including new interior seating, cabinetry, divans, cabin dividers, in-seat power outlets, Collins Airshow 4000 and 20-inch flat-screen monitors, Iridium phone system and DVD players. On tap for the 747SP is an entertainment system and cabin management upgrade, installation of an in-seat power supply package, XM satellite radio, and an upgrade of the Airshow entertainment system.

At the Virginia shop, the company is at work on the conversion of a Boeing 777 to a head-of-state configuration.
