A mobile handheld identification reader and requisite software introduced by 3M will give charter companies, general aviation and FBOs a method of validating and transmitting advance passenger information system (Apis) data for Customs and Border Protection passenger screening with forwarding to the Transportation Security Administration for vetting.
St. Paul-based 3M has released a product to help general aviation operators comply with a new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirement that they provide passenger and aircraft data before all flights into or out of the U.S. Called the 3M Mobile Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) Solution, it consists of a mobile ID reader and client/server software.
3M Aerospace has new aircraft cleaning and maintenance products at the convention (Booth No. 3635). The Scotch-Brite Aircraft Cleaning Pad is nonabrasive and comes in three sizes, designed to clean aircraft exteriors. The two aircraft sealant removal products are the SR Cutter and the SR Radial Bristle Disc.

3M Aerospace (Booth No. 641) has developed a flame-retardant tape for use in the aerospace industry, the company announced here at NBAA’07.
Townsend Leather (Booth No. 8351) recently announced an exclusive agreement to offer 3M Scotchgard Protector treatment for its range of aircraft interior leathers. The Protector treatment prevents soiling and staining, extending the life of the leather while keeping it soft and supple.
Townsend Leather of Johnstown, N.Y., and Scotchgard Protector from 3M have reached an exclusive agreement that will add “high-performance protective treatments” to Townsend leathers. The Scotchgard Protector treatment is being incorporated into the manufacturing process for much of Townsend’s aniline leather product line and is available for other leathers on request.
Derco Aerospace has signed a 12-month nonexclusive deal with 3M’s Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance department to distribute its complete lineup of surface-protection products for a range of military aircraft. The agreement covers the use of 3M protective coatings, which include polyurethane protective boots and tapes that help prevent corrosion and so extend service life.
The Nordam Group and 3M’s Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Division announced they will begin collaborating on projects to serve customers around the world. Leveraging its expertise in making existing products and line lines “better,” 3M will provide technology and expertise to the Nordam Group to help it improve its product and service portfolio.
The number of tools needed for a modern business jet maintenance shop and the hassles of keeping track of their whereabouts and calibration status seem to climb every year. FAA inspectors are increasingly concerned about calibration of even the simplest tools, and unless an operation has its own tool crib specialist, there’s a good chance that tools could easily go missing or out of calibration.
