Eurocopter will break ground next month on a new helicopter service and simulator facility in Kirkhill Commercial Park near Aberdeen Airport, Scotland, a major hub for offshore oil and gas operations. Construction is to be completed by December. Knight Property Group will design and build the facility. It will consist of a 10,000-sq-ft logistics warehouse and 5,000 sq ft of offices.

Bristow Helicopters has unveiled plans for new European headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland. The building at Kirkhill Commercial Park at Dyce Airport includes 12,000 sq ft of office space, 6,000 sq ft of classrooms and 11,500 sq ft available for up to four flight simulators. Two new simulators, one for the Eurocopter EC 225 and one for the Sikorsky S-92, will be installed during the construction phase.

UK regional airline Eastern Airways is “exactly on track, or slightly ahead” of projections for this year, according to COO Chris Holliday. Although he attributes continued profitability to tight financial controls, Eastern has “always been extremely focused on costs,” he said.

A Eurocopter AS 332 Super Puma, operated by Bristow in offshore oil transport in the North Sea, on April 9 became the first helicopter to be fitted with a second-generation Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II). The operator worked closely with equipment manufacturer Rockwell Collins to install the safety system aboard the 21-seat aircraft, with the assistance of Shell Aircraft.

A well known name is returning to British skies with creation of a new rotorcraft operation to support North Sea oil and gas exploration and production activity. The name is Bond, Bond Offshore Helicopters (BOH), and it will be licensed to fly.

The prodigal sons of the North Sea oil-support community, brothers Stephen and Peter Bond, have returned to the fray more than eight weeks early. The first operational flights by Bond Offshore Helicopters (BOH) took off last month. Managing director Geoff Williams said there are several reasons behind the move, but it was always their intention to start flying in advance of the contracted date of August 1.
