Englewood, Colo.-based Adam Aircraft plans to build its A500 piston twin and A700 very light twinjet in Ogden, Utah. The company reported that it leased 22,000 sq ft of Kemp Jet Services’ property at Kemp Ogden Airport. Certification and customer deliveries of the A700 are scheduled to begin next year.

James Lara is the new president and COO of Tempe, Ariz.-based MedAire. Joan Sullivan Garrett, the firm’s founder, CEO and chairman, will concentrate on driving the company’s visionary leadership, high-level promotion and strategic growth. Lara served on MedAire’s board of directors from 1996 until early last year. Kjell Andreassen, executive v-p and COO, will be leaving the firm to pursue other opportunities.
In preparation for introducing its A700 very light twinjet late next year, Adam Aircraft has teamed up with Chicago-based JSSI to offer owners an hourly maintenance plan.
Cessna, Eclipse and Adam Aircraft are all confident that their respective very light jets will be certified this year. According to Cessna chairman, president and CEO Jack Pelton, the Citation Mustang is on track for FAA approval in the fall, though he hinted that the VLJ could get its papers a little earlier.
About 30 years ago, a U.S. executive jet manufacturer was upset by a pilot’s handling report that dubbed his product “a businessman’s fighter.” The company’s concern was that enthusiastic but inexperienced pilots might take liberties with the aircraft, with decidedly unpredictable results.
Adam Aircraft president and COO Joe Walker is about to appoint a factory direct sales representative to promote sales in Europe and sees this region as having great potential for the A500 piston twin and A700 AdamJet. To encourage potential customers, the company has developed a guaranteed maintenance program for both types, offering cost per hour rates for the first three years (except fuel prices).
Saint-Gobain Flight Structures is supplying all the nose radomes for the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300, the company announced at a press conference here on Monday. It has supplied radomes for Embraer aircraft for 30 years.
Adam Aircraft also has chosen Saint-Gobain’s radomes for the Adam A700 jet. A radome has been installed in the test aircraft and will be on production models.
Just because an airplane swings a propeller doesn’t mean it can’t be a VLJ. That was the theme Rick Schrameck, chairman and CEO of Aircraft Investor Resources (AIR), emphasized while introducing the single-engine turboprop Epic Dynasty, currently in development, here at the NBAA Convention on Monday.
How is the A500 program progressing?
There are 12 very light jets currently in development, in flight-test or recently certified. Nearly all are clean-sheet designs, which typically consume more money and time than do derivatives, illustrating the faith manufacturers (and would-be manufacturers) have in this emerging market.
