Bombardier appeared to backtrack on comments in the Russian press by CEO Pierre Beaudoin indicating that the country’s annexation of Crimea could threaten the Canadian company’s planned joint venture with Russian conglomerate Rostec. On Monday a Bombardier Aerospace spokesman told AIN that the Canadian company remained “fully committed” to plans for a Q400 turboprop factory in a special economic zone in the Ulyanovsk region, and that the comments by Beaudoin didn’t refer specifically to the agreement with Rostec.

Greenville,Texas-based L-3 Mission Integration announced that it has chosen the Bombardier Q400 regional airliner as the platform for a new maritime surveillance aircraft (MSA) offering. The company is partnering with Bombardier, Marshall Aerospace and Cascade Aerospace for the venture.
Signaling an apparent decision to abandon any immediate plans for a new large turboprop, Bombardier has found a way to squeeze another six seats into its Q400 by offering an option to convert the airplane’s forward baggage door into a passenger exit. The new interior design would replace cargo capacity with as much as another row and a half of passenger seats, raising the Q400’s total seating capacity to 86.
The U.S. Transportation Command (USTranscom) has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars worth of new contracts for companies providing helicopter support in Afghanistan. Recipients include AAR Airlift, $151 million; Columbia Helicopters, $87 million; Construction Helicopters, $33 million; and HNZ Group, $6 million.
Bombardier has landed a new customer for its Q400 turboprop in Africa, inking a conditional order with Air Côte d’Ivoire for a pair of the 74-seat turboprops here at the Dubai Airshow yesterday. The national carrier of the Ivory Coast, established in January, has also signed for two options, convertible until November next year. Bombardier values the potential firm order at $69 million based on list prices.
Rolls Royce (Stand 1845) celebrated last week the completion of the 1,500th AE 2100 engine, destined for installation on a Lockheed Martin C-130J and scheduled for delivery to the U.S. Air Force next year. The engine is manufactured and assembled at the company’s Indianapolis, Indiana facility. More than 300 of the four-engined C-130J military transports have been delivered or are on order to customers in 15 countries, according to Rolls-Royce. The company’s firm and announced order book stood at over $110 billion on June 30, 2013.
The AirTanker consortium comprises Babcock, Cobham, EADS, Rolls-Royce and Thales. These partners have all contributed equipment and/or buildings to the project. AirTanker Ltd. holds the contract with the UK MoD; service delivery is via another registered company, AirTanker Services Ltd.
