A proposed FAA Airworthiness Directive targets the Embraer Phenom 100’s angle-of-attack (AOA) system. The FAA believes the accumulation of moisture between the AOA vane base assembly and the stationary ring of the sensor’s body can freeze under certain conditions.
Stratos Aircraft has received some external funding and in April and May will conduct wind-tunnel tests of a scale model of the four- to five-place single-engine Stratos 714 very light jet. The tests will take five to ten days using aone-eighth-scale model of the jet and are intended to verify computational fluid dynamics studies of the design.
The technology in Embraer’s newest business jet series, the Legacy 450 and 500, enables detailed exploration and development to take place much further ahead of first flight, according to Eduardo Camelier, chief test pilot for the Brazilian manufacturer. “We are flying this airplane before first flight a lot more than we did with the E170,” he said.
BLR Aerospace has named Heritage Aviation of Burlington, Vt., an authorized dealer for its King Air winglets. Under the terms of the agreement Heritage may sell and install BLR’s certified winglets for the King Air line. Heritage has equipped its four King Air C90s with winglets.
The Pentagon has selected Emteq to study the feasibility of a rotor blade tip lighting system that can be modulated to provide navigation lights at the appropriate azimuth positions, mark the complete rotor disk in hover mode, and provide a low-observable NVG mode for night formation flying.
BLR Aerospace has named Heritage Aviation of Burlington, Vt., an authorized dealer for its King Air winglets. Heritage Aviation, a 79,000-sq-ft green FBO with maintenance and avionics capabilities, joins a global network of 21 dealers with service facilities in 35 locations.
Cessna has selected Winglet Technology’s elliptical winglet for the new Citation Ten. The winglet was jointly developed and certified by Winglet Technology and Cessna Aircraft during a collaborative STC project. Winglet Technology initially received FAA approval of the STC permitting installation of the elliptical winglets on the Citation X in June last year.
Seattle-based Aviation Partners claimed yesterday that its blended winglets will save almost 4.5 million gallons of fuel during the current three-day NBAA Convention. The winglets have been installed on more than 4,000 business and commercial aircraft, according to the company, which credited the winglets for total worldwide fuel savings to date of more than 2.3 billion gallons.
