GKN has selected Germany’s Brötje Aerospace to supply an advanced moving line assembly system that will mate wing trailing edge and main landing gear parts onto Airbus A350XWB all-composite rear wing spars.
Atlantic Inertial Systems (AIS) has introduced a new generation of ruggedized solid-state inertial MEMS (micro electromechanical systems). The system improves noise performance and halves the bias of a current inertial measurement unit or single-axis rate sensor. This makes them compatible with long-endurance missions, the company claims.
More electric systems are gaining ground aboard new aircraft but they will not force hydraulics out in the near or even mid term, according to Alain Coutrot, Safran’s deputy director for research and technology. Moreover, he said, depending on the size of the aircraft, electric power addresses different needs.

Helileo (Hall 4 Stand E66), a Galileo test bed and expert company located in Aerospace Valley of southwest France, is offering flight testing services to manufacturers of GPS, EGNOS and Galileo receivers. Under an original program, the French start-up company plans to have one engineer testing hardware during French Army pilot training flights operated by Helidax, a private venture, with Eurocopter EC 120 helicopters.
Despite the recession, French aerospace research organization Onera is launching a recruitment drive here at the Paris Air Show. This year it hopes to fill nearly 100 vacancies–its highest number of new staff ever, according to Véronique Padoan, the Onera’s director of human resources, told AIN. “Some of our people are retiring and our business is growing,” Padoan explained.
Innovative Solutions & Support is preparing to submit the FAA paperwork necessary to secure a supplemental type certificate allowing installations of the Exton, Pa. firm’s AdViz Cessna Citation retrofit avionics system.
A Citation V completed its first test flight with the IS&S cockpit in April, following two years of development. STC approval is expected this month.
Dassault received EASA certification for its Falcon 2000LX on April 23, followed by FAA certification seven days later. Initially slated for certification more than one year ago, the 2000LX is a winglet-equipped version of the 2000EX. According to the French manufacturer, the winglets cut drag by 5 percent and boost range at Mach 0.80 to 4,000 nm from 3,800 nm. The first customer 2000LX was delivered early last month.
GPS service is in danger of severe erosion, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO). A Congressional “watchdog” of programs and spending of government departments, the GAO warns that the satellite navigation service could slowly worsen after 2010, and not recover to acceptable aviation levels before 2022.
Aviation Partners signed up a customer for its new Falcon 2000 winglet modification here at the EBACE show yesterday. The company (Booth No. 1655) also has appointed StandardAero (Booth No. 370) as its first authorized installer for blended winglets. Details of the EASA- and FAA-approved “high-Mach” winglets on Dassault’s Falcon 2000 family were revealed here at EBACE.
