Completion and maintenance provider Comlux America is expanding into the widebody VIP market. The company will be handling the Airbus ACJ330/340/380 and Boeing 767BBJ/777BBJ/747BBJ. Comlux has focused solely on narrowbody aircraft in the four years since it received the approval from both OEMs as an authorized completion facility. The MRO has already handed over several aircraft completions including an ACJ319, ACJ320, BBJ, BBJ3 and Boeing 757. An ACJ321 is currently in the works.
India’s Mahindra Aerospace inaugurated a 270,000-sq-ft aerostructures manufacturing plant last week at the Narsapura Industrial Estate near Bangalore. The plant opening accompanied an announcement by Mahindra that it signed a technology partnership agreement with Spanish Tier 1 supplier Aernnova Group, the first for Aernnova with an Indian aerostructures manufacturer.
MBDA reported a series of successful firings earlier this month of the Brimstone 2 air-surface missile being developed for the UK Royal Air Force (RAF). The new version of the 100-pound-class, low-collateral-damage weapon adds a laser to the original millimeter-wave (MMW) radar guidance system. The missile will be carried by RAF Tornados and, later, Typhoons and F-35s. MBDA is promoting the Brimstone for other platforms, including UAVs such as the Predator/Reaper series.
Starting in 1998 with just three employees in a West Palm Beach, Fla., shop, Aerospace Technologies Group (Booth No. N1726) has grown into a major producer of window shade systems for commercial and corporate aviation. One of the key moments in the company’s growth came when it became the first supplier of OEM factory-installed electro-mechanical window shade systems for the Boeing 777 and Airbus A330/340 and A380.
BBA Aviation’s Ontic (Booth No. N3505) is growing. The company, which specializes in transitioning legacy parts manufacturing and distribution from OEMs to its own aftermarket production, has expanded both physically and through its range of products and services. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony September 25 it opened a new MRO facility in Singapore’s popular Seletar Aerospace Park, co-located with BBA Aviation’s Dallas Airmotive, which has established a Singapore Regional Turbine Center.
“The year 2013 has been exciting for Vector Aerospace Engine Services–Atlantic,” said Jeff Poirier, president of the Canadian company. “We have heightened our mobile repair team capabilities and coverage worldwide to offer our customers faster turn times on their engines,” he continued. Vector Aerospace holds approvals for supporting dozens of engines, including those manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Canada, Rolls-Royce, Turbomeca, GE and Honeywell as part of its Global Engine Management program.
Amac Aerospace of Basel, Switzerland announced on the eve of NBAA 2013 the completion and delivery of an Airbus A319 for a Middle Eastern client. Performed over a nine-month period, all engineering and completion work was performed in house.

Tamarack Aerospace and Cessna Aircraft signed an agreement this week at NBAA 2013 under which Cessna will market, sell and install Tamarack’s active winglets for the CitationJet family through the CJ3. The winglets provide more range, increased useful loads and improved high-and-hot performance, while simultaneously improving fuel economy.
AmSafe is highlighting the advantages of its new side-facing divan airbag restraints, leg flail mitigation airbag systems and lightweight conventional three-point lap belts, weighing 20 percent less than those currently installed. The company (Booth No. C12740) is opening a new market for its airbag systems in airliners and larger business jets, following the FAA’s update of technical criteria for side-facing seats.
Business aviation services group Comlux is expanding its aircraft completions activity to include widebody VIP aircraft like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A330. The strategic move was confirmed by the company’s board last month and comes at a time when its Indianapolis, Ind.-based Comlux America maintenance and interiors division is seeing a declining backlog of new green Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets.
