Month-over-month, demand for charter flights looks set to flatten out in January, according to the latest projections from online charter portal Avinode. The group’s forward-looking demand index stood at 95.70, less than half of the pre-Christmas and New Year’s holiday spike of 221.62 seen a month earlier on December 3. However, the January 4 index was some 24 points above where it stood 12 months ago. In the global marketplace, Avinode’s January 4 price index stood at 100.02, which was almost unchanged from last month and moderately up from a year ago.

Private flight brokering group Air Charter Service has launched a new website to offer access to empty-leg flights for Asian customers. Clients can browse www.emptylegasia.com for aircraft availability in the region or sign up for weekly email bulletins offering flights.  ACS has offices in Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, South Africa and Spain.

Avinode iPhone and iPad apps

Online charter portal Avinode (Booth No. C7818) is introducing a new suite of mobile applications for iPhones and iPads to put real-time aircraft availability data in the palm of the user’s hand. The Sweden-based group developed the apps so that charter operators and brokers can make them available to their clients, sparing them the chore of doing the complex development work themselves.

The ranks of the Wyvern Wingmen are set to increase with 26 new and returning charter operators taking safety audits during the months of September and October. It is now 20 years since the Trenton, N.J.-based safety consultancy established the Wyvern Standard and, thankfully, not one of the operators approved under this has suffered a fatal accident in this time.

Aircraft management and charter company Talon Air introduced a new chief operating officer at NBAA 2011, announced the addition of an aircraft to its fleet and revealed the impending opening of a new hangar at its Farmingdale, N.Y. base.

The Air Charter Association of North America (Acana), an organization promoting best practices for charter operators and brokers, will hold a forum on charter operator/broker legalities, transparency, consumer protection and update on DOT broker regulations at the upcoming NBAA Convention. The forum will be held on October 10 from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
