It seems every few days lately I get an offer to put my aircraft on someone’s Part 135 certificate and start generating revenues 1-2-3. Never mind that I don’t own an aircraft and never have; these e-mails seem to be targeting anyone and everyone on an aviation mailing list. One solicitation called it a Part 135 “business in a box,” another claimed it was an “easy” way to enjoy the tax benefits of Part 135.

While the industry at large has suffered a severe downturn since 2008, very light jets (VLJs) have enjoyed a “secret boom,” according to German aviation consultancy Wingx Advance. The company based its conclusion on Eurocontrol data showing that over the past six months the number of VLJ flight movements in Europe grew by 100 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Aircraft management company Global Jet Concept marks its 10th anniversary this year at a time when longevity itself is quite an accomplishment in an industry that has been badly buffeted by the financial crisis for the past 18 months or so. The Geneva-based company has some 60 aircraft under management contracts, with 22 of them available for charter.

Avinode and Charter X have completed the merger that they agreed to in March and are pressing ahead with plans to form what will be the executive charter market’s largest online portal. Avinode has bought out the Charter X shares for an undisclosed sum. The two companies’ technical teams have started work to integrate the rival systems.
