Air Comm Corp. (ACC), a specialist in the design, production and support of environmental control systems for rotorcraft, is presenting “The Ultimate Guide To Helicopter Environmental Control Systems” today at 10 a.m. in Room C-148. The program is of interest to rotorcraft owners, operators and maintenance personnel.
Air Comm, which specializes in interior heating and air-conditioning systems for helicopters, is hosting “a comprehensive presentation on helicopter environmental control systems” here at Heli-Expo 2011.
Air Comm has unveiled the first digital climate-control system for helicopters at Heli-Expo. The system will allow crew and passengers to dial in desired temperatures throughout the aircraft. Simply called the Digital Climate Control System, it automatically engages air-conditioning and heating as required to maintain the selected temperatures. It features separate zones and controls for cockpit and cabin.
Air Comm (Booth No. 3748) is supplying vapor-cycle air-conditioning systems to Eurocopter for the U.S. Army’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) program, which is led by EADS North America. Designated UH-72 by the Army, the LUH is a variant of the Eurocopter EC 145. According to Keith Steiner, Air Comm’s evaporator configuration is important to the Army.
Air-conditioner manufacturer Skil-aire of Baltimore has developed the Moving Cooler line of caster-mounted units designed to spot-cool areas such as remote boarding lounges and cabins of aircraft waiting on ramps or during interior maintenance. Skil-aire notes these are the first commercially available air conditioners to isolate the condenser and evaporative air streams for added cooling efficiency and less energy use.
With ever larger numbers of ultra-long-range business jets taking to the skies, individual complaints about dry air in the cabin have grown to a chorus of demands for humidifiers. But while manufacturers would like to oblige, most have yet to come up with a system that is both airplane and people friendly.
Honeywell will announce a new APU at the NBAA Convention this month aimed at turboprops, light jets and small helicopters. The company said the RE-50 is the first oilless and gearless APU with an integrated generator on the same shaft, and at 50 pounds it is about one-third the weight of Honeywell’s RE-150.
The Enstrom 480 series has an upgraded air conditioning unit that the FAA recently certified. “The condenser bypass makes this system more efficient than that of most of our competitors,” claimed Bayard duPont, director of product support for Enstrom Helicopter.
Regulation may be in the air for the cabins of commercial aircraft, though it is unclear which is more infectious: airborne particles or hysterical legislation. On April 6, the House subcommittee on aviation, chaired by John Mica (R-Fla.), discussed efforts to prevent a pandemic–an epidemic across international boundaries affecting masses–and debated whether the problem can best be addressed through legislation or common sense.
Air Comm Corp. (ACC) is displaying its new air-conditioning system for the Eurocopter EC 145 in Booth No. 1846. The system has dual cockpit evaporators and a dedicated cabin evaporator with an electrical load of 31 amps.
