When Rockwell Collins (Booth 3099) met with reporters before last year’s NBAA Convention, the avionics manufacturer couldn’t say much about its still-pending acquisition of airborne communications provider Arinc. That transaction–at $1.4 billion Rockwell Collins’ largest ever purchase–closed in late December. Now the company has plenty to say about its plans to grow with Arinc in the business aviation market.

It is just over a year since Rockwell Collins acquired flight planning group Air Routing International and rebranded the business Ascend Flight Information Solutions. The Houston-based operation has had a lower global profile than rival Universal Weather & Aviation for many years but that could be set to change as its new owner supports efforts to get closer to key emerging markets for business aviation.

Air Routing International’s customers now enjoy a new online service called Trip Quotes. The service enables both charter operators and flight departments to quickly receive a comprehensive trip quote with “instant and accurate results.” It permits flight departments to quickly determine arrangement fees, international third-party charges and estimated fuel costs.
Air Routing International has teamed up with Arinc and Lufthansa Technik Ag in separate ventures, the company announced. Air Routing and Arinc are offering bizjet operators “a portfolio of more than 25 flight services for business aviation under the trade name Arinc Direct,” said the Annapolis, Md. company, a datalink provider.
Hamburg, Germany-based maintenance, repair and overhaul, and business jet completion provider Lufthansa Technik yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with flight support and ground handling specialist Air Routing International of Houston for mutual customer support.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Houston-based aircraft handling agent Air Routing International are preparing an online professional development program for business aviation schedulers. The program will be offered by NBAA and will be modeled after the association’s corporate aviation management certificate program for flight department managers.
The third annual European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (EBACE) will return to Geneva next month (May 7 to 9), with the event set to surpass the scale of the two previous shows. At press time, the number of exhibitors booked had reached 174, and at least 28 aircraft are expected in the static park located right outside the Palais d’Exposition (Palexpo) at Geneva International Airport.
Air Routing International’s Domestic Flight Watch (DFW) program, now in its second year, is designed to reduce the impact of ATC delays and reroutings on corporate and charter operators. “The DFW program has succeeded in boosting the domestic air operations efficiency and time management of Air Routing’s clients,” said vice president Tim Maystrik.
