Next month’s Singapore Airshow, to be held from February 11 to 16 at the Changi Exhibition Center, adjacent to Singapore’s Changi International Airport, promises to remain the main aerospace trade event in Asia this year. New this year will be an Aviation Training Zone, while the U.S. will be the “first ever Feature Country,” according to organizers (see box).

All signs now point to the fact that the Dubai Airshow is number one on the list of must-attend and must-exhibit venues on the worldwide airshow circuit. Two key indicators this year are the Dubai’s show’s stellar new site at Dubai World Central’s Al Maktoum International Airport and the massive orders garnered by the top two airframers–Airbus and Boeing–during this year’s show. This is likely more than just good timing, but an indication of the growing importance of the biennial Dubai event.

Dubai Airshow organizer F&E Aerospace is pressing the reset button on the biennial event, staging the Middle East’s premier aerospace and defense gathering at a new purpose-built site at Dubai World Central. The show is to be permanently based in the new Aviation City zone at DWC, which is a vast new economic development hub built around the new Al Maktoum International Airport near the Jebel Ali seaport.

Business aviation is set to make a strong showing at next month’s Dubai Airshow, with the sector expected to account for as many as 50 of the 150 aircraft anticipated on the static display and around 220 of the exhibiting companies. In addition to all the main airframers, bizav service providers such as Jet Aviation, ExecuJet Aviation, Royal Jet and Jetex are booked to exhibit at the event.

Rockwell Collins announced today that it will be launching a series of technologies next week at the Paris Airshow that will provide helicopter pilots with “unprecedented situational awareness to help them meet the challenges of flying in an increasingly congested and hazard-filled airspace.” Details about the new offering will be announced on Monday at the show, it said, and technology demonstrations will be featured in the “Helicopter Situational Awareness” portion of the Rockwell Collins exhibit (Hall 2B, Stand D108).

Gulfstream Aerospace has established a satellite flight department in Hong Kong to support Gulfstream operators in Asia, the Savannah, Ga.-based aircraft manufacturer announced yesterday at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. Five pilots–three large-cabin demonstration pilots, one mid-cabin demonstration pilot and a chief pilot–staff the office.

Aviation Industry Corp. of China (Avic) is working on a “China New Generation Business Jet” (CNGBJ), the company revealed today at Airshow China 2012. A scale model of this new design is on display at the manufacturer’s exhibit booth at the six-day airshow, which opened today at the airport of Zhuhai, Guangdong province in Southern China.

The ninth edition of the biennial Airshow China opens at Zhuhai Airport in the southern province of Guangdong on November 13, with organizers promising the largest event since its start in 1996. Some 650 exhibitors from 39 countries have flocked to mainland China’s largest airshow, with many of the 80 aircraft present due to take part in the flying display before it closes on November 18.
