Aviation Partners (Stand 128) is introducing its Falcon 50 blended-winglet modification to the European market with the arrival of its flight test aircraft in the static display at EBACE 2012. The aircraft made the 3,129-nm trip from Seattle’s Boeing Field to Geneva International Airport with one stop, in Keflavik, Iceland, according to pilots Dave Hurley, Bo Corby and John Reinhold.
Airbus A320 family
The latest Airbus ACJ319 is making its world airshow debut on the EBACE static display. Operated by Swiss-based business aviation services company Comlux (Stand 227), the aircraft can carry 19 passengers and features a cabin by the group’s outfitting arm Comlux America (see page 42).
Ruag Group, the parent company of Ruag Business Aviation, has emerged from 2011 in good form, according to the company’s financial report released in late March. What’s more, the Swiss aerospace and defense technology firm has launched “a new, sharper brand image” as it expands and becomes more international.
Hyundai Motor Co. is entrusting the completion of its new Boeing Business Jet to Comlux America. The work will be done at Comlux’s Indianapolis, Indiana facility and will be its second BBJ completion and fifth project overall.
The design window “is closing” on the final configuration of the re-engined Boeing 737 Max narrowbody airliner.
Boeing unveiled a new “advanced technology winglet” design for the 737 Max on Wednesday, saying that it will provide up to an additional 1.5-percent fuel-burn advantage on top of the 10- to 12-percent improvement already advertised for the re-engined narrowbody.
CAE has begun construction of a second training center in São Paulo, Brazil. It is near the city’s São Paulo Congonhas downtown airport and slated to enter service later this summer or early fall.
The current CAE training center at Guarulhos International Airport recently expanded its roster of simulator bays to 10 from six and offers training for the A320, A330, A340, 737NG and 777. CAE also recently introduced Sikorsky S-76 training.
Former JetBlue captain Clayton Osbon, who’s still sitting in a Texas jail, has decided to plead not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of interfering with other flight crewmembers, according to a court motion filed by his attorney last week. Osbon’s first officer locked him out of the cockpit of his Airbus A320 on March 27, after the captain’s actions had caused the first officer to fear for the safety of the flight.
Embraer’s backlog for commercial airliners fell to its lowest level in more than five years, following a first quarter in which it delivered 21 E-Jets but sold only 12. As of March 31, its firm backlog stood at $14.7 billion, compared with $15.4 billion at the end of last year. The value of its backlog has fallen from a high of $21.6 billion in the third quarter of 2008.
CTT Systems of Nyköping, Sweden, recently scored two large-scale orders for its CTT Cair cabin air system, one for a Boeing 747-8 being outfitted by Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Germany, and the other for an Airbus ACJ319 to be completed by Amac Aerospace of Basel, Switzerland.
It is the sixth Cair package to be installed by Lufthansa in executive versions of single- and twin-aisle airliners. The A319 represents the fourth Cair system to be installed by Amac.
