European low-cost carrier Ryanair has entered “early negotiations” to order 200 to 300 new Boeing 737-800s or Airbus A320-series airliners in the coming two years. The equipment, which includes replacement capacity, would support continued expansion during the 2012 to 2017 timeframe, with Ryanair potentially benefiting from any decline in aircraft prices during the current recession.

A US Airways Airbus A320 carrying 150 passengers and five crew on board ditched into New York’s Hudson River late this afternoon and initial reports indicate that all the occupants escaped with their lives. Flight 1549 had taken off moments earlier from New York La Guardia Airport for a flight to Charlotte, N.C., when the A320 descended into the 35-degree F water near Manhattan’s 57th Street.

BAA Jet Management last month took delivery of its first managed Airbus, an A318 Elite, making the Hong Kong-based company the first in Asia to operate the executive version of the narrowbody airliner. The 18-passenger Elite is also the first A318 to be registered in the People’s Republic of China and is based in Shenzhen, where it is available for charter.

Brazilian airline TAM’s Technological Center in San Carlos, Brazil, has received EASA 145 approval to maintain the Airbus A321 and A330. TAM Technological Center is now certified to perform maintenance on the Airbus line through the A330 as well as on the Fokker 100. Brazil’s government aeronautical materials department also has approved TAM Technological Center to maintain the presidential Airbus ACJ.

AMAC Aerospace, launched in July 2007, is ready for business in the first of two new hangars at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Switzerland.

According to CEO Heinz Köhli, the start-up maintenance, completion and refurbishment center officially opened its doors on November 11 but had already begun work on its first project, an Airbus A320 executive interior for a Middle East client.
