India’s Kingfisher Airlines is attributing the grounding of 15 aircraft and de-leasing of another two to “rationalization” of its network to counter deep financial losses. “The airline industry in India is going through a tough period due to high costs and lower yields,” said Kingfisher Airlines CEO Sanjay Aggarwal. “We are no exception. We are taking steps to improve our financial performance and are rationalizing network, dropping unprofitable flights and expediting fleet reconfiguration.”

The French Air Force will sign a contract for between five and seven A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transports in 2013, with quick deliveries foreseen, according to its commander General Jean-Paul Palomeros. Budget difficulties thwarted earlier French attempts to procure a new tanker.

Lufthansa has chosen CFM56-5Bs to power four new Airbus A320s on firm order, CFM International announced at the Dubai Air Show yesterday. The announcement comes just a day after CFM revealed a $2 billion order from Republic Airways of the U.S. covering Leap-1A engines to power 20 A319neos and 60 A320neos.

IAG plans to combine the aircraft acquisition philosophies of British Airways...

The tie-up between Spanish flag carrier Iberia and the UK’s British Airways to create International Airlines Group (IAG) will pave the way for an overhaul of the way the pair buy aircraft, according to the new company’s finance chief. The two airlines plan to combine buying in a new fleet renewal strategy led by IAG with its stronger buying power, although they will continue to run and maintain their fleets separately, Enrique Dupuy said.

CFM International, the GE/Safran partnership that developed the CFM56 high-bypass turbofan, is celebrating its 36th anniversary with a record 500 million engine flight hours in service. The CFM56 powers Boeing BBJs and Airbus ACJs as well as thousands of Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s and A340s.
