Following a management buyout of its avionics division last year, Swiss manufacturer Revue Thommen decided to seek business in new markets more aggressively than in the past. With that in mind, the company opened a facility in Addison, Texas, near Dallas, in January.

But Honeywell Aerospace clearly didn’t want to take any chances and so in 2004 it hired as its vice president for advanced technology Bob Smith, executive director of American Space Alliance, the contractor on NASA’s space shuttle upgrades development program.

Aviation Communications & Surveillance Systems (ACSS), a joint L-3 Communications and Thales company, has announced that Cessna has selected the TCAS 2000 traffic alert and collision avoidance system as standard for the Citation X, XLS and Sovereign. Launched in 1997 by Honeywell, TCAS 2000 was the industry’s first TCAS II system. In 1999 when AlliedSignal and Honeywell merged, ACSS was formed to buy the product.

Owners of Piaggio Avanti twin-pusher turboprops were presented with some good news yesterday in the form of an announcement by avionics maker Rockwell Collins that it will offer buyers the chance to upgrade to Pro Line 21 avionics, the same baseline cockpit that is sold in new Avanti IIs rolling out of the factory.

Owners of older Honeywell GNS-X flight management systems have until the end of the month to take advantage of special pricing on new GNS-XLS units, the maker announced here yesterday. Buyers who take advantage of the promotional offer will receive a $3,000 discount off the price of a new GNS-XLS FMS, as well as free software that introduces the latest worldwide navigation capabilities to the unit, according to the company.

Air Deccan has selected Honeywell’s full avionics suite and auxiliary power unit (APU) for the 60 Airbus A320s it has on order, the equipment manufacturer announced here. The avionics suite features an enhanced ground proximity system, the ACAS II airborne collision avoidance system and the RDR-4B weather radar.
