Bell Helicopter selected Chelton Flight Systems to provide a glass cockpit for the company’s light single-engine helicopters. The Chelton cockpit will be available from Bell for the Model 407 beginning in the first quarter of 2007. Until then, Bell 407, 206 and 210 owners can upgrade their existing aircraft to synthetic vision through Bell installation facilities or Chelton’s dealer network.
L-3 Avionics Systems anticipates gaining STC approval for its Iris enhanced-vision system (EVS) this month after the successful conclusion of flight testing in a King Air C90. FAA parts manufacturing approval should follow soon afterward, clearing the way for installations in customer airplanes.
CAE SimuFlite is set to begin offering Citation X technical training by this fall. Initial training duration is 10 days, while the recurrent program lasts five days. The company’s Citation X level-D-qualified flight simulator allows hands-on operations during training, including engine run-up, taxi and systems operation.
Sikorsky plans to make Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS) standard equipment on all future production S-76s and S-92s. A Sikor-sky and Honeywell team originally developed EGPWS for helicopter applications using the S-76, and after FAA approval in 2001 it was listed as an option for the model.
Avidyne has selected XM WX Satellite Weather to provide broadcast datalink weather for the avionics maker’s FlightMax EX500 multifunction displays and FlightMax Entegra cockpit. Information about hardware pricing and availability will be announced at EAA’s AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wis., later this month, an Avidyne spokesman said.

ROCKWELL AERO COMMANDER 690A, BISHOP, CALIF., AUG. 11, 2002–At about 1:23 a.m. Aero Commander N690TB crashed near Bishop Airport (BIH). The accident occurred during a descending turn between base and final approach. The twin turboprop was destroyed, and the pilot and three passengers were killed. The airplane was owned by the pilot, who was operating it under Part 91.
Mid-Canada Mod Center (MC2) was recently awarded an STC for a new avionics suite on Bombardier Challengers. The company installed a suite of Universal Avionics components, including a four-tube EFI-640 flat-panel integrated display, MFD-640 multifunction display, Universal terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS), Dual UNS-1F flight management systems and Universal Cockpit Display (UCD).
Close to 100 Falcon 900s are the subject of an Airworthiness Directive requiring revisions to the “abnormal procedures” section of the airplane flight manual and an update of EFIS symbol generators.
