Banyan Air Service held its eighth annual AMT Day on May 24. The annual event pays tribute to Charles E. Taylor, the first aircraft maintenance technician (AMT), who built Orville and Wilbur Wright’s engine. At a time when new student starts in aviation technical schools are down and industry technician retention is low, Banyan uses the event to honor its aircraft maintenance technicians, avionics team and parts team.

Aeronautical Professionals Malta (AP Malta), an EASA-approved Part 147 training provider located in the Mediterranean island of Malta, is offering two aircraft type training courses (valued at more than €15,000, or approximately $23,000) as raffle prizes during EBACE 2013. The two-year-old company offers aircraft type training to engineers, airworthiness review staff and aircraft mechanics.
Michelin and the FAA Safety Program (FAAST) have partnered to offer pilots and aircraft maintenance technicians a free online tire maintenance course titled The Impact of Tire Maintenance on Aircraft Safety. “Tire maintenance is often overlooked in aviation; this course will help reinforce this important part of aviation safety,” said Brad Beall, Michelin Aircraft Tire zone director for North and South America.

Ty Harrison has joined Denver-based Hawkeye Aviation as the MRO’s head of technical sales. Harrison has more than 25 years’ experience in general, airline and military aviation. He holds an FAA airframe and powerplant mechanic’s certificate and has management experience in MRO contract work. Before joining Hawkeye Aviation, Harrison served as an FAA ODA designee and specialized as a borescope instructor.
