Ross Aviation, backed by private equity firm Centre Partners Management, purchased a majority interest in Bradley Pacific Aviation’s five-FBO chain in Hawaii. The Bradley Pacific acquisition brings the Ross FBO stable to 12 facilities, and Ross Aviation plans to maintain the Bradley Pacific brand name.
The new Marsa Alam International Airport has opened in southern Egypt. The facility was built and is being operated by Kuwait’s M.A. Kharafi Group as a gateway to new upscale tourist resorts on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The airport (ICAO code HEMA) offers a 9,800-ft runway with DVOR-DME. It can be kept open around the clock with 48 hr notice.
Associated British Ports of the UK is in its sixth month of negotiations with possible buyers of its American Port Services’ U.S. aviation businesses, including its AvCenter chain of FBOs and the management of several airports. The company has been trying to sell most of its U.S. Amports businesses since last September because they don’t fit with its core business of operating seaports.
Central Texas, near the capital city of Austin, may yet get the general aviation airport it has so desperately needed for the past several years. When Austin (Texas) Mueller Airport gave way to the new Austin Bergstrom International Airport in April 1999, general aviation was not granted nearly the same footprint it had enjoyed at the old, now-closed field.

United Arab Emirates national carrier Etihad Airways celebrated its fourth birthday last week by introducing an interline agreement with Australian operator Virgin Blue that connects its 45-destination network with 22 Australian cities through Brisbane and Sydney. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad will increase frequency to Sydney from one daily flight to 11 flights a week next March; it flies to Brisbane three times a week.
Airports in Cancun, Cozumel and Chetumal, Mexico, remained closed this morning in the wake of Hurricane Dean, according to inspector Santana Martinez Villanueva at Cozumel International Airport. Martinez Villanueva told AIN that the eye of the storm passed just south of the Estado de Quintana Roo, the region where Cancun and Chetumal are located.
Lambert St. Louis International Airport is the newest airport to be awarded Transportation Security Administration approval as a gateway airport for corporate jet operators who want to fly to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Lambert St. Louis began gateway operations on June 15, and the supporting FBO is Signature Flight Support, which also operates the sole FBO at Washington National.

The facility features multiple segmented waiting areas, a dedicated pilots’ area, VIP lounge, conference room and a spa available for customers. ASUR also offers gourmet catering, luxury transportation, rental cars, cellphone rentals, air charter and other services.
Italian carrier Eurofly has been operating its all-business-class Airbus A319 service between Milan and New York since May, but the start-up has been marred by a political row over traffic rights. The U.S. Department of Transportation refused to allow the service to operate to and from Milan’s near-downtown Linate Airport because U.S. airlines are obliged to use the less convenient Malpensa Airport.
