Alaskan and Gulf Coast helo giant Era Aviation has entered the airline age with its recent signing of a five-year contract for use of Airline Automation Inc.’s (AAI) Internet booking engine and related services–in other words a complete airline-style carrier reservation system.
Arinc (Stand W416) has unveiled a gate check-in system that aims to cut costs for airports and airlines by allowing them to take advantage of so-called “common-use” passenger check-in platforms.
Arinc’s Muse technology lets several airlines share the same gates using common workstations in an arrangement that streamlines and simplifies gate check-in procedures, the company said.
Most airlines are investing in information technology to streamline their businesses as part of the relentless struggle for profitability. But a surprising number appear willing to ignore initiatives such as e-ticketing and self-service kiosks, and those that do risk being left behind.
