Large flocks of birds around many Indian airports continue to threaten aircraft that are constantly under threat of strikes particularly during takeoff and landing. Data compiled by Airports Authority of India for Chennai International Airport, for example, shows bird strikes increased from 38 in 2012 to 50 in 2013.

Switzerland-based global aviation services provider Execujet will be moving from a 3,200-sq-ft temporary FBO structure at Bali International Airport, to a permanent facility next month. The new 34,229-sq-ft facility, currently undergoing completion, will offer 10 times more space than the temporary location next door. A 700,000-sq-ft ramp built next to the new terminal is designed to handle all business aircraft up to single-aisle jetliners.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency can now process non-U.S. citizen general aviation flight arrivals as well as those for U.S. citizens at New York Long Island MacArthur Airport. Arrivals are processed through the agency’s newly renovated facility at the airport’s main terminal between Gates B14 and B15. In operation from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week, the facility can clear a maximum combined 20 passengers and crew per general aviation flight.
The city of Cleveland, Tenn., has notified the FAA that it intends to close Cleveland Hardwick Field Airport (HDI) on March 14, starting a public comment period. The airport has a single 3,300-foot runway that it is unable to expand because of surrounding residences. As a replacement, the city developed the Cleveland Regional Jetport (RZR) approximately five miles away with a 5,500-foot runway. All flight operations and tenants, including the Crystal Air FBO, relocated there when it opened last year.
After more than a year of construction, Galaxy FBO is in full operation at its new facility at Lone Star Executive Airport in Conroe, Texas. Galaxy FBO had been providing service at the location since 2006. In 2012 Black Forest Ventures purchased the company and undertook construction of the new complex. The terminal occupies the entire 17,000-sq-ft first floor of a three-story building and includes lounges for passengers and crews, and an A/V-equipped conference room that can seat 100 people.
U.S. airlines and airports fell into opposing camps over the Obama administration’s Fiscal Year 2015 budget request for the Federal Aviation Administration, which would raise the cap on the passenger facility charge (PFC) airports are entitled to collect for every boarded passenger from $4.50 to $8.
Signature Flight Support acquired the FBO assets of the Jets facility at London Biggin Hill Airport last week. Jets will continue to operate its core business of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, while Signature will own and operate the FBO assets.
For the third successive year in recent times, the Asian Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (ABACE)–which is organized by NBAA in conjunction with the Shanghai Airport Authority, the Asian Business Aviation Association and the Shanghai Exhibition Center–will return to Shanghai’s Hongqiao Airport. It will run from April 14 to 17 at Shanghai Hawker Pacific’s Business Aviation Centre FBO, and will feature a 43,000-sq-ft (4,000-sq-m) hangar, a 52,000-sq-ft (4,800-sq-m) exhibitor pavilion and extensive ramp area for the static display.
The long-simmering debate about how best to address the issue of helicopter noise above the Los Angeles basin has come to full boil. The parties that had been trying to collaborate on voluntary abatement measures have seen them become mired in a miasma of mistrust, skepticism, anger and a sense of betrayal on the part of just about everyone who flies a helicopter through the airspace, including–for the first time–law enforcement.
