Two San Francisco-area airports are growing, with new FBOs and hangars under construction. At Buchanan Field in Concord, an FBO called Concord Jet Center is building a facility on 5.5 acres on the west side of the airport. Another company, Seecon, has begun construction of an office/hangar complex, also on the west side.
The FAA has published two revised Advisory Circulars for airports. AC 150/5200-30B is designed to help airports develop snow- and ice-control plans, conduct and report on runway-friction surveys and establish snow-removal and -control procedures. For airports with wildlife problems, AC 150/5200-33B can help identify areas of airport land that animals find hospitable and suggest ways of keeping wildlife away from the airport.
Aero Toy Store has begun construction on a 45,000-sq-ft expansion of its facility at Montreal’s Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International Airport. The $7.6 million addition includes a 31,000-sq-ft hangar and 14,000-sq-ft completion center. It is scheduled to be finished in December.
For travelers flying to Switzerland early next year for the World Economic Forum (WEF) meetings in Davos (January 23-27), St. Gallen-Altenrhein and Zurich FBO ExecuJet are cooperating to accommodate the expected influx of business jets. ExecuJet has the only private ramp and lounge on the airport, according to the company, and offers full FBO services. The drive from Zurich Airport to Davos is 100 miles.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last month issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would require more detailed information about arriving and departing private aircraft and the people on board within a time frame necessary to assess the risks that such flights could pose to national security.
Phoenix-based Swift Aviation Group (Booth No. 615) announced that it has been named the official FBO of the Arizona Super Bowl XLII Host Committee. The designation allows Swift to provide Super Bowl-related hospitality and promotional programs to users of its facility. The FBO, on the southwest side Sky Harbor International Airport, includes a private terminal and two 40,000-sq-ft hangars.
Universal Weather & Aviation recently completed a major overhaul of its online presence, including a new software interface that allows schedulers and dispatchers using Computing Technologies for Aviation’s (CTA) FOS scheduling application to submit trip data directly from FOS to Universal.
Signature Flight Support (Booth No. 1600) has grown to 82 worldwide locations with the recent addition of two FBOs in Belgium and Greece. The Belgium facility at Liege Airport offers separate passenger and crew lounges, customs and immigration, security screening and direct access to the ramp. Signature purchased the former ATAS FBO, which has been serving Thessaloniki Airport at Greece’s second-largest city since 1987.
With a little help from a tug, the tarmac ballet commences with an early arrival for the NBAA static display at Fulton County/Brown Field Airport. About 100 aircraft were expected to grace the apron at the airport, while others can be found spread throughout the exhibition area in the Georgia World Congress Center.
Visitors to Pueblo Memorial Airport on the eastern edge of the Colorado Rockies can look forward to major infrastructure improvements. The projects include new ramp space and taxiways as well as all utilities for a 22,500-sq-ft hangar with 4,000 sq ft of connected office space. The hangar facility, capable of accommodating aircraft as large as a Boeing 737, is already available for occupancy. According to the Pueblo Economic Development Corp.
