Fairs & Exhibitions Aerospace, which runs the Dubai Airshow and other events in the Middle East, has named Heather Rezek as general manager. She is tasked with building the company’s portfolio of shows, which–in addition to the Dubai Airshow–includes Middle East Business Aviation, Aircraft Interiors Middle East Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Middle East, and Aerospace & Defence Training Show.

Parts distributor Avio-Diepen is here in Hall 3 Stand C6 and is sponsoring the Sally B, the UK’s last remaining airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress. The Sally B flies regularly at air shows, memorial flypasts and commemorative events as a memorial to the 79,000 Allied airmen who gave their lives during the Second World War.

Farnborough International is continuing the Business Aircraft Park (BAP) concept first introduced as a three-day “show within a show” four years ago. This gives business aircraft exhibitors the flexibility to withdraw aircraft after the first three trade days of the seven-day event. However, manufacturers can keep their aircraft on display for the duration of the show if they prefer.

Life begins at 60 looks to be the motto for the Farnborough International airshow as it prepares to mark the 60th anniversary of the first staging of the event, held this year from July 14 to 20. The 2008 show also marks the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Britain, with the historic Farnborough site the UK’s answer to Kitty Hawk thanks to the daring of American aviator Samuel Cody.

French ground power specialist Guinault is providing aircraft juiced up on the ground here at the Farnborough show through its partner PowerVamp. The company, which also serves the same need at the Paris Air Show, makes ground power units for aircraft of all sizes, as well as equipment such as cabin heaters and air starters.

For those who just don’t want the airshow ever to end, there is the official Farnborough 2008 DVD, which is being filmed here all week by LifeTV Media. With multiple camera angles (including in-cockpit cameras), the DVD offers comprehensive coverage of the daily flying displays as well as special features on topics such as the Centenary of British Flight and interviews with pilots.

Underscoring the universal appeal of the Farnborough International 2008 airshow, the organizers have again dedicated space for specialty sectors or disciplines, with areas reserved for business aircraft manufacturers and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It also is featuring International Youth Day on Friday, as the show week ends (see box).

Airshow signed a four-year agreement with Gulfstream to provide cabin management and source equipment for the super-midsize Gulfstream 200 (née Galaxy) business jet.

Middle East-based carrier Qatar Airways plans to show its new executive shuttle-configured Airbus A319 Corporate Jetliner at the Dubai 2001 airshow in the United Arab Emirates next month. The airplane is expected to take part in the flying show on opening day, November 4, and remain on the static display line for the remainder of the four-day event.
