Regional turboprop manufacturer Avions de Transport Regional intends to deliver 50 aircraft this year, a number that is only slightly below that produced in 2008. At a press conference here yesterday, CEO Stéphane Mayer also said the company has received 28 firm orders but has suffered nine cancellations since the beginning of this year.
A private equity investment and advisory firm has been founded by William Koch. Sutherland Companies, based in Dallas, will specialize in investments in aviation-related companies through its Sutherland Ventures group.
Brazil’s Embraer celebrated the first anniversary of its listing on the New York Stock Exchange by taking its ERJ-190 road show to the Big Apple’s Rockefeller Center in late July. The “rolling tour,” which showcased a partial ERJ-190 mockup rigged to an 18-wheel truck, stopped in 12 cities over the summer and attracted an estimated 2,500 visitors, including executives from at least 25 airlines.
AMR has begun planning the divestiture of its American Eagle regional subsidiary amid calls for asset sales by shareholders disenchanted with the company’s recent stock market performance. Although AMR doesn’t attribute the decision directly to pressure from investors, the November 28 announcement immediately preceded a 6.9-percent jump in share price.
The largest member of Embraer’s 170/190 family of single-aisle commercial jets–the 108-seat Embraer 195–took to the air for the first time on December 7 from the company’s production center in São Jose dos Campos, Brazil. The first prototype–a two-seat-row stretch of the 100-seat Embraer 190–validated systems operation and flight characteristics during its one-hour-and-56-minute mission.
