Twin Commander service center Eagle Creek Aviation Services was issued an STC for a Garmin G950 upgrade on Twin Commander turboprops. The STC replaces the existing avionics and instruments with a 12.4-inch MFD and two 10.4-inch PFDs, subtracting approximately 150 pounds from the airplane’s empty weight. The S-Tec 2100 digital autopilot has been a popular upgrade in the Twin Commander series and that system couples with the G950, or the autopilot can be installed during the upgrade. Engine instrumentation is displayed on the MFD.

The Bellevue, Washington-based company focuses on design and manufacture of lighted products using LED and other solid-state technologies. These include caution-warning systems and display panels, switches, annunciators, integrated gear levers and other electro-mechanical controls.
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bombardier Challenger 300s. The AD was prompted by multiple reports of erratic electrical status indications on the pushbutton annunciators and the engine indication and crew alerting system (EICAS). Some of those reported incidents involved a momentary loss of electrical power and loss of flight displays.
Luma Technologies (Booth No. C11947) has revealed a new LT-4545 LED annunciator panel for the Beechcraft King Air C90, the latest addition to its Lumatech line of LED annunciator panels for the King Air family.
The LT-4545, a drop-in replacement for the existing incandescent annunciators incorporated in the C90 glareshield, will be compatible with newer model C90A, C90GT, C90GTI and C90GTx models.
Wichita, Kansas-based wire harness maker Global Aviation Technologies has introduced a new annunciator replacement panel for the de Havilland Dash 8 turboprop, the company announced here at the RAA Convention. A so-called “plug and play” modification, GAT’s new panel replaces and combines the current Honeywell-Grimes caution advisory panel (Part Number 80-5035-XX) and warning annunciator panels (Part Number 75-0434-X) for the Dash 8-100, -200 and -300, cutting in half the number of LRUs operators need to stock.
Pilot Mall’s new user-configurable instrument panel for table-top basic flight training devices is making its public debut this week behind Hangar B at the Sun ’n Fun Fly-in in Lakeland, Fla. The Flight Training Cockpit–Advanced Panel, brainchild of Pilot Mall president Neil Glazer and Michael Moore of Coldwater, Ontario-based Redfab, is designed to work with Microsoft Flight Sim on a PC platform. It uses Saitek ProFlite instruments, avionics and flight controls in a 21- by 31-inch metal instrument panel with pop-out cutouts.
Luma Technologies (Booth No. 3675) has received FAA parts manufacturer approval for its Lumatech LED caution/warning panels available for most recent models of King Airs fitted with classic, Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 and Garmin G1000 avionics. The units cost is between $14,000 and $20,000, according to Luma president Bruce Maxwell.
Cessna 560XL Excel, White Plains, N.Y., May 28, 2010–The twinjet, operated by NetJets, sustained minor damage when the main cabin door opened shortly after takeoff from Westchester County Airport. After the door seal/cabin door annunciator light illuminated, the crew returned to the airport and the door opened on the downwind leg of the traffic pattern, prompting the crew to declare an emergency.
After three years of development and testing, Safe Flight Instrument’s “Powerline Detector” system for helicopters received FAA supplemental type certificate approval last month. The approval applies to the White Plains, N.Y.-based company’s own Aerospatiale Gazelle, and STCs for other helicopters will be sought as customer needs dictate.
