With general aviation contributing more than $3.5 billion to Wisconsin’s economy annually, and General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) member companies employing more than 1,100 Wisconsinites, the association partnered with Gulfstream Aerospace in Appleton, Wis., today to celebrate GA’s role in the Badger state’s financial health. “The aviation industry is central to our local economy,” said Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson.

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), in partnership with Gulfstream Aerospace, will hold a rally celebrating general aviation’s contributions to the economy on Thursday at Gulfstream’s Appleton, Wis. facility. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Reps. Tom Petri (R-Wis.) and Reid Ribble (R-Wis.) will be the featured speakers. A crowd of 400 Gulfstream employees, general aviation enthusiasts and local community and business leaders is expected.

Gulfstream Aerospace announced plans to increase employment at its Appleton, Wis., facility by approximately 100 positions in the next year. The hiring boom is designed to support the growing volume of completions work for Gulfstream large-cabin aircraft, including the recently certified G650.

The World Trade Organization ruled that $1.13 billion in low-interest loans issued through Canada’s Export Development Corp. to support the sale of 51 Canadair Regional Jets to Appleton, Wis.-based Air Wisconsin constitutes an illegal government subsidy. An interim WTO report, issued last month in response to a formal protest by the government of Brazil, calls for the withdrawal of the loans.
