The new U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirement for aircraft operators to provide passenger manifest and aircraft information before departure for all international flights to and from the U.S. should be less of a chore thanks to a new electronic filing service offered jointly by NBAA and Arinc Direct Business Aviation Solutions.

NBAA has partnered with Arinc Direct to offer a new online tool to help members comply with U.S. Customs’ electronic Advance Passenger Information System (eApis) requirements. Esterline CMC Electronics (Hall 3 Stand D50) and Boeing have signed a contract to offer CMC’s multi-channel SwiftBroadBand compliant CMA-2102SB satcom high-gain antenna system for new Boeing 777s. CMC Electronics expects the first applications of its FronTier range of integrated cockpit systems to enter service before the end of 2013. Business aviation flight services provider Arinc Direct has started offering electronic APIS (advanced passenger information system) reports for flights arriving or departing the U.S. and its territories. Effective May 18, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will require pilots of general aviation aircraft to electronically transmit passenger manifests at least 60 minutes before departure. APIS compliance until May 18 had been voluntary.

Arinc has adjusted the pricing structure for its datalink services by introducing a flat fee for global communications via VHF Inmarsat and Iridium. According to the company, this will reduce or at least stabilize costs for operators at a time when they can ill-afford to incur unexpected fees.

May 6, 2009 - 6:15am

Satcom Direct (Booth No. 683) now offers services via Inmarsat, Iridium and ViaSat (which provides a Ku-band broadband service called “Yonder” from leased satellite capacity, although it is planning to have its own satellites). The company’s relationship with ViaSat means it will compete with the Arinc SKYLink/Rockwell Collins exchange system, now installed in some 80 business aircraft.
