Artificial turf

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has installed FieldTurf synthetic turf on the edges of the Romeo runway. The artificial grass helps provide visual contrast for runway edges and assists with water drainage and reduction of FOD generated by natural turf, according to manufacturer FieldTurf Tarkett. Another benefit of synthetic turf is that it doesn’t provide food, water and shelter for animals.

FieldTurf, a Montreal-based manufacturer of artificial turf surfaces for sports arenas, is branching out into airport applications for its products. The company claims that its synthetic grass, Air-FieldTurf, is safer than natural dirt or grass for runway and taxiway shoulders, infields and any other area where wind or jet blast could stir up dust and debris that could damage aircraft.
