Malaysian Airlines has signed a deal with Canada’s Viking Air to take six new 19-seat Twin Otter Series 400s for use in scheduled service by its regional subsidiary MASwings. Viking plans to deliver all the airplanes by the end of next year.

Rizon Jet is considering legal action in its bid to overturn efforts by Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) to prevent it from providing handling for third-party operators at its Doha International Airport headquarters. The Qatari company has claimed that after supporting its 2011 investment of approximately $137 million in a new private terminal, the CAA then ordered it not to use this facility for third-party handling.

Boeing signs UAS teaming agreement at IDEX conference

Boeing and Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (Adasi) signed a teaming agreement on February 18 to support Boeing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the UAE, and to help develop that country’s own technical capabilities. The parties signed the agreement at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi.

The FAA has approved the Shanghai Hawker Pacific FBO as a foreign repair station, allowing it to support U.S.-registered aircraft in China. The company applied for the approval just a few days before the FAA stopped taking applications on Aug. 3, 2008, due to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s failure to introduce security rules for such facilities.

India’s defense minister A K Antony today admonished the country’s Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) for “delays in delivery” and said he was “impatient” to see completion of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program. Antony was addressing the “Aerospace products- challenges in design to deployment” seminar held as part of the biennial Aero India show in Bangalore.

A Bombardier CRJ200 operated by Kazakh regional airline SCAT crashed on Tuesday near the village of Kyzyl Tu in southeast Kazakhstan, killing all 15 passengers and six crewmembers. Although reports from Kazakhstan indicate the existence of low clouds and fog, a Bombardier spokesman couldn’t confirm the weather conditions at the time of the accident.

Qatar-based Rizon Jet says the country’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is unfairly blocking the company’s plans to expand its business aviation services. The privately owned group charged on Tuesday that it is “facing hindrances that make it impossible to sustain a viable business in Qatar.”

BAE Systems announced a contract from Oman on Friday for 12 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters and eight Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJTs). Deliveries are expected to begin in 2017.
