This year’s Middle East Business Aviation show, to be held in Dubai December 7 to 9, is set to be the biggest event yet. According to Fairs & Exhibitions, the company that organizes the ­biennial event, the 2010 show will have about 40 percent more exhibitors than in 2008, with 350 companies booked. The number of trade visitors is expected to climb by around 27 percent to reach 7,000.

JetEx Flight Support, an aviation services company with more than 260 locations worldwide, has agreed to donate to Unicef 1 percent of the revenues it generates by providing overflight and landing permits. The agreement, which took effect October 15, will be effective through April 15 next year.

Saab sprung a major surprise earlier this month by announcing an order worth some $680 million for its Erieye AEW&C (airborne early warning and control) system from an unidentified customer. The number of Saab 2000 platforms was also unspecified. Saab said the contract covers ground equipment, logistics and support, and will run for approximately 4.5 years.

The Mitsubishi Regional Jet project officially entered its manufacturing phase today, as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Aircraft held a ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, to mark the start of production of the first MRJ part. During the event, MHI technicians began cutting aluminum for a frame component associated with the airplane’s horizontal stabilizer.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior ordered 12 S-76D twins at Farnborough. It’s the largest fleet order for the S-76D to date. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2012.
