Indian airlines want to be bolstered by foreign investment.

As highly taxed fuel, mounting debt and aggressive ticket pricing stifle the fledgling airline industry in India, the government seems ready to renege on its promise to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country’s carriers. Current rules do not permit foreign airlines to invest in domestic carriers, although non-aviation-related investors can hold up to a 49-percent stake.

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner is en route to conclude its so-called “Dream Tour” with a sweep of appearances in the UK, Scandinavia and Italy. The trip has been a promotional odyssey that has already taken in the U.S., South America, China and Africa.

BizJet International of Tulsa, Okla., a Lufthansa Technik subsidiary, has signed an agreement with Boeing that gives BizJet the status of an approved completion center and an official member of the Boeing Business Jet completion network.

According to BizJet president and CEO Kai Roepke, the agreement allows the center to offer refurbishment, green completion and maintenance services for Boeing aircraft.

California-based aircraft charter providers STAjets and Elite Aviation formed a joint venture yesterday. Under the agreement, Santa Ana-based STAjets will have access to Van Nuys-based Elite Aviation’s fleet of long-range jets, while Elite will have access to the STAjets fleet of light to midsize jets and turboprops. “The agreement is seen as a first step to establish a long-term relationship between the two firms and the joint venture provides substantial benefits for both companies,” the companies said.

The Airbus A380 has had its share of problems both before and since deliveries began in late 2007. On the same day last week, Tuesday, two airlines suffered flight-terminating mechanical problems with the world’s largest passenger airliner.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed today at the Abace show sets the stage for VistaJet to establish a base in Beijing and eventually provide point-to-point service within China.

It has been a year since the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) elected a new board and revamped its strategic approach to supporting business aviation development in the region. Jean-Noel Robert, Airbus’ executive and private aviation area sales director for Greater China, Japan and Korea, became chairman, while Embraer Executive Aircraft vice president for sales in China Lee Li and Bombardier Business Aircraft’s then Asia Pacific regional vice president for business aircraft David Dixon were appointed vice chairmen.
