The former Mac Dan Aviation FBO at Essex County Airport in Caldwell, N.J., which closed on September 30, has reopened under the new name Air Bound Aviation. Andy Ferguson, a long-time Essex County aircraft broker, hangar lessor and salesman for Pilatus PC-12 dealer Pro Star Aviation, took over the lease that used to be held by Mac Dan Aviation and reopened the FBO on December 1.
Mac Dan Aviation, one of two FBOs at Essex County Airport in northern New Jersey, closed its doors in September. The company stopped providing fuel services and sold all of its equipment, a source told AIN. Mac Dan operated the FBO, as well as an aircraft sales division, charter operation and flight school.
Jet Aviation’s Beijing, China, operation, a joint venture among Jet Aviation, Deer Air and Reach Investment established before last year’s Olympic Games, has moved into a new FBO facility at Beijing Capital International Airport. Jet Aviation provides FBO and AOG maintenance services at the Beijing facility, including crew, passenger and aircraft handling and flight support (overflight and landing permits).
Operators of small- to medium-size turbine aircraft looking for a quality facility to use in the Boston area should consider Norwood Municipal Airport (OWD) and its FBO, Flight Level Aviation. The airfield offers two 4,000-foot runways and localizer and Rnav approaches, and it is a U.S. Customs landing rights facility. An FAA-contract tower operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the spring and summer and to 8 p.m. in the fall and winter.
This year, Banyan Air Services is celebrating 30 years of service at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in South Florida. Founded by Don Campion in 1979, Banyan started in a 4,000-sq-ft hangar as a small piston-aircraft maintenance shop for local charter operators.
The new Branson Airport, scheduled to open on May 11 next year, has hired former Signature Flight Support Boston operations manager Sharon Morris to be the FBO and airline services manager. Branson Airport is a privately financed $155 million airport being built to serve the growing tourism market in Branson, Mo. The airport is building and will operate the FBO.
The Million Air FBO at Utah’s Provo Airport has opened a 15,000-sq-ft hangar large enough to accommodate a Gulfstream G550. Million Air Provo is a subsidiary of Utah’s Keystone Aviation and provides aircraft management, maintenance and charter as well as FBO services. Keystone also owns the Million Air FBO at Salt Lake City International Airport.
Palm Aviation (Stand No. 1000) plans to invest $11 million in building an FBO at the Al Maktoum International Airport currently being built at Jebel Ali. The flight-support group, headquartered at Dubai International Airport, intends to open the new facility by the start of 2010.
Aircraft tracking and airport data provider Passur signed up three new clients recently. Ross Aviation’s FBO network is using Passur’s FBO software suite to monitor arriving aircraft and maximize fuel volume delivered to customers. Growing FBO chain Galaxy Aviation, a long-time Passur user, recently added the Fuel Portal system to its Passur system.
London is one of the world’s most crowded and congested cities, but business aircraft operators flying to the British capital are spoiled for choice when it comes to landing options. Representatives from several of these airports and FBOs have made the trip here to Orlando to state their case for being NBAA showgoers’ home away from home on the other side of the Atlantic.
