The Northeastern group of companies, which bills itself as a “specialty services operator” because it isn’t an FBO (no fuel service), is building a new hangar at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y. The most recent addition was a $4 million, 35,000-sq-ft hangar, and next year the company’s fourth hangar should open, adding another 35,000 sq ft of hangar and 17,500 sq ft of office and shop space to Northeastern’s 16-acre complex.
Jet Aviation and joint-venture partners Deer Air and Reach Investment’s new FBO facilities at Beijing Capital International Airport opened earlier this week, just in time for Friday’s opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games in the Chinese capital city.
Learjet and Challenger maintenance company Spectra Jet has opened an FBO at Springfield Airport in Ohio. The new FBO, named FBO S-Jet, is the result of months of negotiations with the city of Springfield, according to owner and president Mike Catherwood. FBO S-Jet is offering reduced avgas and jet-A prices “to be more competitive with the surrounding airports,” he said.
Key Air continues expanding, with its newest FBO, Key Air Treasure Coast, at St. Lucie County International Airport in Fort Pierce, Fla. The company acquired the former Jet Service Center FBO and will be using those facilities to serve customers while it builds a new 90,000-sq-ft full-service FBO with office and hangar space as well as maintenance, paint and interior completions capability.
DB Aviation is building a new 43,000-sq-ft hangar at its Waukegan (Ill.) Regional Airport FBO. The new hangar, which includes 5,500 sq ft of office space, should open on December 1. In addition to FBO services, DB Aviation also provides charter, management and maintenance services to Chicago-area customers.
Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh, N.Y., is about to get its second FBO after several years of being served by one operation. CAS Handling of White Plains, N.Y., is scheduled to start pumping fuel and offering the typical business aircraft transient and tenant services in the fall, according to Stewart Airport operator National Express Corp.
An Atlanta businessman has opened JetServ PDK, a new FBO at FBO-rich Atlanta’s DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK). The new FBO pumps only jet fuel (Phillips 66) and serves only transient turbine aircraft. JetServ occupies three acres of tarmac and renovated facilities that once belonged to Air BP, including a 5,000-sq-ft terminal building. It also offers a 10,000-sq-ft hangar for use by those transient aircraft.
Palm Aviation, the on-demand flight support provider, has announced plans for a new $12 million FBO at the massive urban aviation development project, Dubai World Central Aviation City. The 80,000-sq-ft facility, slated to be the first FBO at the site, is strategically important because of its location next to the world’s largest airport, and will enable rapid solutions for ground handling flight support needs, said the company.
London City Airport will hold the official opening of its new business aviation center on May 31. The facility includes a dedicated 38,000-sq-ft ramp for business aircraft, which have previously found it hard to park at the airport, located six miles east of the UK capital’s financial district and just two miles from the Docklands business district. Until last December, business aircraft handling was contracted to Signature Flight Support.
FBO and charter/management company Key Air is building a new FBO at Anoka County-Blaine Airport in Minneapolis. Key Air sister company Keystone Aviation Services operates a large FBO at Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Connecticut, and the Minnesota FBO will also host Key Air charter/management, aircraft sales and maintenance operations.
