Sagetech is now taking orders for the Clarity line of iPad and Windows tablet/PC ADS-B weather (FIS-B) and traffic (TIS-B) receivers. Two of the Clarity receivers include an AHRS that provides pitch and bank information for synthetic vision apps like Hilton Software’s WingX. The hockey puck-size Clarity units come in four models, ranging from two Core data-only units and two Core SV units with AHRS. The basic Core unit ($699) receives on the 978 UAT ADS-B frequency, which is for aircraft flying below 18,000 feet. The Core Dual ($877) receives on both 978 UAT and 1090ES frequencies.
Attitude and Heading Reference Systems
Rockwell Collins has delivered its Pro Line 21 Integrated Display System (IDS) for installation on two Sikorsky S-61 helicopters. The installation was accomplished through a collaborative effort with Toronto-based Vector Aerospace. The Pro Line 21 IDS retrofit package for the Sikorsky S-61 includes two 10-inch-by-8-inch LCD primary flight displays, a solid-state weather radar system with turbulence detection, an attitude and heading reference system (AHRS), Mode S transponder with ADS-B Out capability, and a dual display control panel.

Garmin announced the new G5000H helicopter avionics suite at Heli-Expo today, coinciding with the launch of the Bell 525 Relentless. The new helicopter is the launch customer for the G5000H. According to Garmin, the Bell 525 will feature a four-display system and incorporate Bell’s new awareness, reactive and control (ARC) cockpit. Garmin is displaying the G5000H in a 12-inch screen configuration this week at Heli-Expo, but displays are also available in 14-inch size.
North Flight Data Systems (Booth No. 7841) has announced it will integrate and certify its lightweight aircraft recording system (Lars) in the Bell 407. In cooperation with helicopter services giant PHI and Rolls-Royce, North Flight will be integrating its voice, video and flight-data recording systems into a Bell 407 airframe.
At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Rockwell Collins welcomed visitors to its pleasantly air-conditioned pavilion to share new technologies that are coming soon to cabin-class cockpits, including a touchscreen interface for the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Rockwell Collins tested the touchscreen concept extensively with focus groups, with the goal of providing a way for pilots to keep their eyes forward instead of buried in a center console when manipulating avionics. The Rockwell Collins touchscreen PFD and MFD Pro Line Fusion system is targeted at a wide sector of the market, from single-engine turboprops and light jets to Part 25 jets.

A year after announcing a move into the helicopter market with its G500H glass panels, Garmin International revealed the G1000H system at last month’s Heli-Expo show. Like the G500H, the G1000H features an attitude heading reference system (AHRS) redesigned for helicopter dynamics, including the ability to align while in motion, in-flight dynamic restarts and helicopter maneuvering.
Bell Helicopter unveiled two new versions of its 407 single here at Heli-Expo yesterday. The 407GX features a Garmin G1000H glass cockpit, while the 407AH is a $5 million commercially available armed helicopter developed primarily for the export market. It will be available to qualified customers directly from Bell, as opposed to via contracts from the U.S. Defense or State Department.
