Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services North America has received Transport Canada STC approval for installation of the Sagem Avionics integrated cockpit display system 8 (ICDS-8) for the Bell 206. The system uses two eight-inch color monitors and a solid-state AHRS system. It can be interfaced to GPS, TCAS, TCAD, Stormscope, FLIR and Max-Viz.

Rockwell Collins announced that its Pro Line 21 Continuum retrofit cockpit system has been certified in the Cessna Citation III, bringing to six the total number of aircraft approved to fly with Continuum.

Honeywell said it has removed the Apex 1000 glass displays from its Cessna 206 flying testbed in Olathe, Kan., to make way for evaluations of the Apex 2000 system, flight trials of which have just begun. Tests of the Apex cockpit line, said a spokeswoman, are moving ahead on schedule.

What began as a clever idea by two former Eclipse Aviation engineers culminated last month with TSO approval for Aspen Avionics’ Evolution Pilot and Pro primary flight displays. Shipments of the EFD1000 Pilot product started on March 31, and will be followed this month by the market introduction of the Pro version.

Sandel Avionics received FAA technical standard order (TSO) certification of its new vibration-resistant SG102 attitude- and heading-reference system (AHRS) for helicopter applications. The SG102 is certified for primary heading reference and offers helicopter operators a solid-state replacement for electromechanical directional gyros. When packaged with Sandel’s SN3500 or SN4500 displays, it offers a complete compass system upgrade.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has awarded a competitive bid for completion of six Eurocopters to Metro Aviation, working from a new main facility near the Shreveport Downtown Airport in Louisiana. Metro Aviation, in its first work for the state of Texas, beginning this month will complete five “green” AS 350B2s and one new EC 145.

Northrop Grumman Italia is making its Singapore Air Show debut with a display covering its full range of navigation systems mostly based on fiber-optic technology already selected in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Products on display include the LISA-200 and Navex family attitude heading reference systems and LN 251/LN 270 high accuracy inertial navigation systems.

Cutter Aviation Phoenix has received an FAA STC approval for the installation of dual Rockwell Collins AHS-3000 attitude heading reference systems on the Beechjet 400A. The STC allows for simple replacement of the aging and soon-to-be-obsolete AHS-85E AHRS. All new Hawker Beechcraft 400XPs will soon be coming off the line with the AHS-3000 system installed.

The NTSB has sent a letter to FAA Administrator Marion Blakey recommending that the Rockwell Collins AHC-85 attitude heading reference system (AHRS) computers in more than 7,000 regional airliners and business jets be tested to ensure the units won’t fail during aggressive pitch and roll maneuvers.
