China is launching its own helicopter show. The China Helicopter Exposition 2011 (Booth No. 503) will be held September 15 to 18 in Tianjin and is sponsored by the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and its Avicopter division. Currently China has a population of 1.4 billion but has only 200 civil helicopters.

The SJ30 twinjet saga has taken another interesting twist in the wake of last year’s bankruptcy filing of the aircraft program’s current owner, Emivest Aerospace.
Emivest Aerospace has had its court-administered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection extended through midsummer while it tries to complete the sale of the companyπs assets to an entity owned by the Chinese government. Attorneys for the maker of the SJ30 light jet successfully petitioned the U.S.

China-based Avicopter announced on November 9 the first flight of its first indigenously developed light single-engine helicopter, the AC311, in Tianjin. The helicopter, the design of which has likely inherited some lines from the light Eurocopter models that parent company Avic has long produced, has an mtow of 4,850 pounds and can carry six people.
The China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition staged in the southern city of Zhuhai earlier this month served as a high-profile platform from which to trumpet the growing achievements of China’s civil aircraft business. Indeed, much of the $9.3 billion worth of new business announced at the show went to the home team.
