When Eclipse Aviation founder and CEO Vern Raburn earlier this year declared that a retooled avionics system for the Eclipse 500 very light jet would be tested and certified within four months, many observers were skeptical. More telling, however, was the revelation that Eclipse’s hand-picked supplier team also had doubts about the accelerated timetable.
Avidyne and WSI have struck a deal under which Avidyne will develop and produce WSI’s new AV300 and AV350 satellite weather data and audio receivers. The AV300 will receive WSI InFlight weather services delivered by Sirius Satellite Radio, while the AV350 will receive WSI InFlight data and Sirius audio programming.
Garmin is encroaching on rival Avidyne’s turf with the announcement last month that the G1000 avionics system will be offered as optional equipment in the Piper Saratoga II TC and 6X.
Avidyne has selected XM WX Satellite Weather to provide broadcast datalink weather for the avionics maker’s FlightMax EX500 multifunction displays and FlightMax Entegra cockpit. Information about hardware pricing and availability will be announced at EAA’s AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wis., later this month, an Avidyne spokesman said.
Now that Avidyne’s relationship with Eclipse Aviation has ended, the Massachusetts avionics supplier says it’s ready to move on to other projects. For the time being that means targeting the expanding retrofit cockpit market, specifically for aging King Airs where older analog instruments are being removed in favor of modern glass displays.
Datalink weather may be nothing new, but many believe it is much improved thanks to subscription-based services from XM Satellite Radio that are taking the aviation world by storm.
After taking a close look at all of the glass flight decks available on the market, Piper has selected Avidyne’s FlightMax Entegra integrated cockpit for its single-engine Saratoga HP and TC and the new Piper 6X and XT.
Gulf Coast Avionics last month became an authorized sales and installation center for the Alliant King Air flight deck offered jointly by Avidyne and S-Tec. Designed for the King Air 200, the cockpit features dual Avidyne EX5000 primary flight displays, EX500 multifunction display with XM WX datalink and electronic approach chart capabilities and the S-Tec Intelliflight digital autopilot.
The Alliant integrated avionics and autopilot suite received FAA supplemental type certification for the Beech King Air 200 yesterday. Alliant is a partnership between autopilot manufacturer S-Tec and avionics-maker Avidyne. The King Air 200 installation includes two Avidyne Envision EXP5000 PFDs with built-in solid-state gyros and air-data system and an EX500 MFD coupled with S-Tec’s Intelli-Flight 2100 digital flight control system.
The Alliant integrated avionics and autopilot suite received an STC for installation in the Beech King Air 200 during the NBAA Convention. Alliant is a partnership between autopilot maker S-Tec and avionics supplier Avidyne.
