Avjet has received FAA approval to operate its first Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) under the FAR Part 135 regulations for both domestic and international charter travel. The approval concludes a rigorous, seven-month process to demonstrate that Avjet meets the stringent financial and operational targets set forth by the FAA and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

A wrongful-death lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by the families of three of the 15 passengers killed in the crash of a Gulfstream III attempting to land at Aspen, Colo., on March 29, 2001, was settled last month, completing litigation surrounding this accident. All the other cases brought by the families of the other victims had been settled, according to the defendants’ attorney.

Would a broader aeronautical definition of “night” have helped to prevent the fatal crash of a Gulfstream III last year? The NTSB has not yet released its final report, but it’s clear from the following recommendation that the Safety Board believes a “black-hole effect” may have been a factor in the accident.

The NTSB issued two recommendations to the FAA as a result of its investigation into the March 29, 2001, fatal crash of a chartered Gulfstream III at Aspen, Colo.

The NTSB’s recently released final report on the fatal crash of a chartered Gulfstream III, N303GA, at Aspen, Colo., on March 29 last year indicates that from the start little went right for this flight. A much later than planned departure from Los Angeles International Airport launched a race to beat an approaching curfew, ever darkening skies, deteriorating weather at the destination and a critical fuel situation.
