The third running of EBACE, the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition, has established the Geneva, Switzerland event as a solid entry in the world aerospace calendar, with three major business aircraft manufacturers (Cessna, Gulfstream and Raytheon) choosing to attend EBACE instead of this month’s Paris Air Show.
Shipments of new business jets in the first quarter plummeted nearly 43 percent compared with last year’s first quarter, according to figures compiled by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.
In a move that appeared to bring Raytheon a step closer to concluding its intention to take control of the operations of fractional jet provider Flight Options, company chairman and CEO Kenn Ricci stepped down last month and was replaced by John Nahill, formerly v-p of corporate strategy and development at Raytheon Co. He was named chairman and CEO in a unanimous vote by the nine-member board.
As Raytheon Aircraft works to pull itself out of its financial hole, development of the Hawker Horizon continues with “absolutely no showstoppers,” according to Jim Schuster, chairman and CEO.
Stevens Aviation’s Dayton, Ohio facility and Jet Aviation’s Bedford, Mass. facility have been designated by Raytheon Aircraft as service centers for the entry-level Premier I. The approval covers heavy and scheduled maintenance, airframe maintenance and engine repairs. There are approximately 25 Premier Is in the field since deliveries started last June.
The Premier I has been involved in four landing overruns since the Raytheon Aircraft light jet entered service in the summer of 2001. In each mishap, there was substantial damage to the airplane but no occupants were injured. Failure of the
lift-dump spoilers to deploy has been implicated in at least two of the mishaps.
Premier Aircraft brought two of its newly certified Dassault Falcon 50 Dash4s to the NBAA static display, the first time the modified Falcon 50 has been shown at an NBAA show.
Hawker Beechcraft has appointed Jet Aviation in Dusseldorf, Germany an authorized service center for Hawker 800 series.
Bill Brown, Hawker Beech-craft’s new president for global customer support, has all the right credentials for his new job, which he started at the end of May. Brown took over the job from Randy Groom, who “recently made the decision to take some time with his family and explore new career opportunities for the future,” according to Hawker Beechcraft.
Hawker Beechcraft Corp. is here for the first time in its new form, since Onex Partners and GS Capital Partners acquired the company from Raytheon. On the static display, it is exhibiting several business aircraft, including three jets–a Hawker 4000, a Hawker 850XP and a Beechcraft Premier IA–and a Beechcraft King Air 350ER turboprop.
