Raytheon Aircraft has selected airborne telecommunications equipment company AirCell’s ST3100 Iridium-based satcom system as standard equipment on the Beechcraft King Air 350 and as an option on the B200.

As the domestic RVSM implementation date of January 20 moves ever closer, hundreds of operators–particularly those flying older airplanes–still face the formidable task of obtaining the necessary FAA approvals and certifications of their crews and aircraft.
To that end, modification companies have recently introduced RVSM packages for Hawker 700s and Gulfstream IIs and IIIs.
The NTSB is in the preliminary stages of its investigation into two separate business aircraft accidents on October 24 that killed 15 people. At about 12:30 p.m., a King Air 200 owned and operated by Hendrick Motorsports crashed near Martinsville, Va., while en route to a Nascar race that afternoon, killing all 10 aboard.
Beech King Air 200, Bay View, Texas, Dec. 10, 2004–King Air N648KA was destroyed by fire when it hit trees after a loss of control taking off from Rancho Buena Vista Airport, near Bay View. The ATP pilot and five passengers were not injured. The airplane was operated by Charter 1, of Houston. VMC prevailed and an IFR flight plan was filed for the Part 135 on-demand air charter flight en route to Houston.
Hawker Beechcraft Super King Air 200, Bogota, Colombia, Oct. 11, 2007–The RioSur King Air air ambulance pilot reported a problem with an engine on takeoff from Bogota. The airplane crashed into buildings, killing the pilot, copilot, two doctors, a nurse and two people on the ground.
The FAA has granted several supplemental type certificates (STC) to Standard Aero for upgrades to aircraft powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop, including the Cheyenne I, IA, II and IIXL and King Air F90.
Hawker Beechcraft has obtained FAA certification for the King Air 350ER (ER for extended range), which adds nacelle fuel tanks to raise the aircraft’s fuel capacity to 775 gallons and its max range to 2,570 nm, an increase of more than 1,000 nm over a standard King Air 350.
Garmin received FAA STC approval to install G1000 avionics retrofits in the Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90A/GT. The $350,000 retrofit (uninstalled) results in a weight saving of approximately 100 pounds. Notably, this is Garmin’s first G1000 retrofit STC, and it paves the way for future G1000 retrofit installations such as the King Air 200 and B200, a program Garmin announced in September at the NBAA Convention.

Hawker Beechcraft has certified a longer-range version of the venerable King Air 350 twin-turboprop, an airplane that can stay aloft longer than eight hours and boasts an IFR range of 2,570 nm, some 700 nm farther than the standard model.
