Global ground services provider Swissport is seeking to acquire rival Flightcare’s divisions in Spain and Belgium. The purchase of Flightcare Spain would add Barcelona, Malaga, Fuerteventura, Valencia, Alicante, Jerez and Almeria to the company’s ground handling network. Through the purchase of Flightcare Belgium, Swissport would be able to add ground handling capability at Brussels Airport.

Executive charter operator FlyingGroup (Booth No. 439), which has bases at Paris Le Bourget, Cannes and Antwerp, has launched a CO2 emission offset program and has thus become a “CO2-neutral” company, according to Belgian organization CO2logic’s standards. FlyingGroup has promised to cut its emissions and educate customers. Customers are not required to sign up, however.

Concerned about continuing international shipping delays because of post-9/11 U.S. Customs regulations, Raytheon is opening a spare parts center in Liège, Belgium. The 147,000-sq-ft, fully automated facility will match its current Dallas/Fort Worth spares depot capability. The European facility initially will be stocked with $10 million worth of inventory in support of all Raytheon models, including out-of-production types.

PIPER PA-46-310P MALIBU, DIJON LONGVIC, FRANCE, OCT. 9, 2004. Malibu N20VP crashed eight miles south of Dijon Longvic Airport (LFSD), while en route to Chateau La Chassagne, Dijon (Burgundy), France. The instrument-rated pilot and three passengers were killed and the airplane was substantially damaged.
