Bell Helicopter announced today that Air Medical Group Holdings, the parent of helicopter EMS company Air Evac EMS, placed a firm order for 20 new Bell 206L-4 singles to be delivered between this year and 2017. The helicopters will be used to refresh and expand the fleet, according to Air Evac president Seth Myers. Air Evac’s Lifeteam currently operates more than 130 Bell 206 LongRangers and is the second-largest helicopter EMS provider in the U.S., behind Air Methods, with 115 bases in 15 states.
The Bristow Academy in Titusville, Fla., is installing the Garmin G500H glass-panel avionics suite in its four Robinson R44 Raven 1 instrument training helicopters. Bristow operates one of the world’s largest offshore oil and gas helicopter services, and updating its training helicopters with the G500H will make it easier for pilots to transition into larger mainline helicopters that already have the latest glass-panel technology, the company said. Separately, Bristow honored graduate Michael Campbell last month.
Bell Helicopter is providing more details on the Short Light Single (SLS) helicopter it announced at the Paris Air Show in June. Performance goals for the SLS include a speed of 125 knots, a range of 360 to 420 nm, a useful load of 1,500 pounds and a ceiling of 11,000 feet.

Onboard Systems (Booth No. N4431) is exhibiting its range of external load equipment, including a new Bell 407 hydraulic cargo hook kit, at Heli-Expo ’13.
The new kit, which may be installed for either right- or left-hand pilot operation, uses the company’s proprietary pin load cell technology, which features a single attachment point to replace the conventional two-hole load cell linkage.
FreeFlight System of Waco, Texas (Booth No. C2203), announced at Heli-Expo ’13 that it has received STC approval for tailboom mounting of antennas for its RA-4000 and RA-5000 radar altimeters on Bell 206L, 206L-1, 206-L-3 and 206 L-4 helicopters. “The tailboom antenna mount STC gives Bell 206L owners who rely on radar altimeters significantly greater flexibility when installing other belly-mounted equipment to fulfill a variety of missions,” said Tim Taylor, president and CEO of FreeFlight Systems.
BLR Aerospace (Booth No. N3724) is marking the delivery of its 600th FastFin tail rotor enhancement and stability system for medium models of Bell helicopters including the 212, UH-1H, UH-1N, Huey II and 412.
Air Medical Group Holdings placed an order for 30 Bell 206L4 and 407GX singles yesterday here at Heli-Expo. The company is the parent of helicopter EMS providers Air Evac Lifeteam, Med-Trans and EagleMed. No breakdown of the precise number of each type or the value of the order was provided by Air Medical Group. The three companies operate a fleet of Bell 206 LongRangers (Air Evac Lifeteam), Bell 407s and Eurocopter EC135s (Med-Trans) and Eurocopters and Beechcraft airplanes (EagleMed).
Bell Helicopter has announced a substantial investment in its support of operations in China. The OEM has signed a memorandum of understanding to assist with the establishment of a maintenance training facility in Guangdong Province. The MOU with Guangzhou Civil Aviation College focuses on training for the Bell 206L and Bell 407 and includes access to training-course materials, electronic training systems and continued support throughout training.
Bell Helicopter announced purchase agreements for 15 new helicopters at the recently concluded Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. The agreements cover two Bell 429s, 11 Bell 407GXs and two Bell 206L4s. Also at the show, Bell announced the signing of a MoU with Guangzhou Civil Aviation College to assist with the establishment of a maintenance training facility for the Bell 206L and Bell 407. In addition, it appointed Shanghai Kingwing General Aviation Co. and H&P General Aviation Service Co. as authorized customer service facilities.
