Indigo chairman and CEO Peter Pappas made it clear last month that actions by New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey to block service by Indigo to Teterboro Airport had no legal basis for justification. “We’re bringing a service into an area where it is very much needed, and he [McGreevey] and others are doing nothing more than using a non-issue as a platform to enhance their positions with their constituents,” said Pappas.

An online poll in New Jersey Monthly magazine has apparently launched the pilots’ jungle telegraph into action. The question posed on the magazine’s Web site reads, “Despite increased air and noise pollution, should small airports such as Teterboro make efforts to renovate and expand if it will bring more money to the local economy?” At press time, 7,753 people had answered, with “yes” votes carrying a 98-percent majority.

U.S. Customs has opened a second facility at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport (TEB). Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger, Teterboro, N.J., Oct. 25, 2006–Challenger N409KC, registered to the Bank of America of St. Louis, was landing at Teterboro Airport (TEB) and overran the runway. No damage was reported to the aircraft and there were no injuries to the pilot and five passengers.
The controversy over Teterboro Airport operations seems to be cooling down. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns and operates the airport, has asked for a 10-percent reduction in operations, and Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), has demanded a 25-percent reduction.
