Bombardier Aerospace delivered NetJets’ first “signature series” Global 6000 at a special ceremony today in Montreal at Bombardier’s Global Completion Centre. “Today NetJets has unquestionably become part of the Bombardier Business Aircraft family,” said Bombardier Business Aircraft president Steve Ridolfi.

Recently I was fortunate to experience something that is probably fairly ordinary for most corporate pilots, initial type rating training at a simulator training center. I had the opportunity to complete a Citation V type rating initial course at FlightSafety International’s Long Beach, Calif., learning center. And for a pilot who hasn’t spend much time in a two-pilot cockpit environment nor flying a jet, the experience was tremendously beneficial, illuminating and hugely enjoyable.

NetJets opened a new exclusive-use facility for its customers at Atlanta DeKalb-Peachtree Airport yesterday. The fractional aircraft provider has signed a long-term lease with Atlantic Aviation for the 2,800-sq-ft facility, which includes customer and crew lounges, a conference and business center and flight-planning facilities. According to NetJets, DeKalb-Peachtree is one of its most popular domestic destinations, with approximately 4,000 NetJets flights coming in and out of the airport annually.

Rockwell Collins has named Robert Ortberg, formerly executive v-p and COO of the company’s government systems business, as president. He was succeeded by Philip Jasper, previously v-p of business development.

Gregg Slow, formerly senior v-p at NetJets, has been appointed as XOJet’s senior v-p of sales and national accounts.

Canadian MRO specialist Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services has named Chris McDowell, former v-p of sales and business development with Heli-One, as v-p of sales and marketing.

NetJets Europe is betting on large-cabin, long-range operations as demand for light to midsize jets remains flat and is preparing to receive its first Bombardier Global 6000. Delivery is scheduled to take place by year-end, with commercial operations starting February 1.

NetJets’ aircraft charter and management arm, Executive Jet Management, launched a new program that provides flight departments and aircraft owners with a suite of services that offer cost savings on fuel and crew training and VIP access to FBOs. Dubbed Support Services, the program also offers benefits that include preferred rates for crew recruiting, crew training classes, aircraft brokerage, aircraft quality evaluations and maintenance at EJM’s repair station at Cincinnati Municipal Airport-Lunken Field.

Demand for private aviation is clearly proving slow to recover. What is your current projection for demand levels going into 2013 and 2014?

Anticipating several more years of suppressed demand for private aviation, NetJets Europe is seeking further voluntary redundancies from its pilot workforce. The fractional ownership and jet card provider is in consultation with its flight crews in the hope of avoiding compulsory layoffs, with some of the temporary payroll reduction measures it took in 2009 set to expire by the end of next year.
