The aviation store at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, which had been known as Hangar63, has been renamed Banyan Pilot Shop. Its online store, TropicAero.com, has become BanyanPilotShop.com. “This is being done to take advantage of the strength of the Banyan brand,” said Nancy Bouvier, Banyan’s director of marketing. “This change will make it easier for Banyan to market its retail store and online store to the aviation community.”
Thirty years ago, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was the sleepy undeveloped South Florida of novelist John D. MacDonald’s trouble-attracting protagonist Travis McGee. At spring-break time, the city would erupt with partying young people, but during the rest of the year it was business as usual, a South Florida far removed from today’s frenetic, beach-front high-rise metropolis.
A few years ago, who would have thought fingerprinting would be one of the services offered at an FBO? But in today’s security climate, Banyan Air Service at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), Fla., can be justly proud of its status as a TSA-approved fingerprinter for pilots from surrounding businesses.
Banyan celebrated its third annual AMT Day (May 24) by honoring its maintenance and avionics technicians. Dave Valenta, Banyan’s director of maintenance, and Lou Homsher, Banyan’s quality assurance manager, organized the event.
Banyan Air Service president Don Campion announced earlier this year his FBO has acquired the assets and adjoining leasehold formerly owned by Cav-Air at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Executive Airport (FXE). The new real estate adds 35 acres of prime center-field area to Banyan’s existing 50 acres. Assets included in the deal were Cav-Air’s fixed-wing maintenance division, parts distribution business and line-service concession.
Positioning itself to take advantage of an expected economic recovery, Banyan Air Service, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based full-service FBO, has signed a contract with DeCrane Cabin Interiors of Tucson, Ariz., in a joint venture to offer business aircraft cabin refurbishment services.
Support for officially designating May 24 national AMT Day continues to grow across the U.S. and is already being celebrated by many in the industry.
“AMT day is an important day at Banyan,” Don Campion, the company’s president, said during its second annual AMT Day celebration. The Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport MRO offers comprehensive aircraft maintenance services.
Pilots no longer need to complain about the tight ramp space at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport FBO Banyan Air Services. The FBO opened a new terminal and ramp on December 7. The new terminal includes a 2,800-sq-ft lobby with an 800-gallon saltwater aquarium, a waterfall, palm trees, three pilot lounges and separate bunk room, private mailboxes, showers, a business center, baggage holding area and two conference rooms.
Construction of Banyan Air Service’s new 25,000-sq-ft FBO terminal building at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport is nearing completion and a November 10 opening is anticipated. A 20,000-sq-ft hangar is attached.
The tropical setting of the South Florida FBO includes plantation-style paddle fans, a 600-gallon saltwater aquarium, 30-foot palm trees and a waterfall cascading from the second story.
It has been little more than a century since mankind figured out how birds do it and applied that knowledge to slipping the surly bonds. Ever since, we have been relying on the airfoil shape of a bird’s wing to shed gravity’s shackles and enter the sky on wings of our own.
