Anti-icing surfaces under development at GE and EADS could one day reduce and possibly even eliminate the need for existing anti-icing techniques. Research organizations at the two major aerospace companies are currently working on surfaces that would naturally repel ice without using energy.
Embraer performed the Legacy 500 first engine run on January 17 at its headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, the company said yesterday. Between the midsize jet’s December 23 rollout and the first run of its Honeywell HTF7500E engines, Embraer conducted several ground tests, including APU and refueling tests.

The system features a Fokker composite electro-thermal leading edge, Meggitt heaters and a power harness using ICE Corp.
Boeing has added Hamilton Sundstrand to its team of suppliers on the KC-46 aerial tanker, awarding it a contract to supply its environmental-control system, electric-power generation system, emergency ram-air turbine system, fans and engine bleed-air system, engine controls and accessories, bleed-air leak detection system and the engine/APU fire detection and overheat detection system.
