Shipping giant UPS and partner Aviation Communication and Surveillance Systems (ACSS) last month submitted the approval paperwork to the FAA for a suite of ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) avionics intended to streamline busy operations at UPS’s Louisville, Ky. hub.

The airline has awarded a contract to avionics maker Innovative Solutions & Support for flat-panel cockpit display upgrades in nearly 200 airplanes in its fleet that will dramatically alter the flight decks’ look.
Cessna has placed an order with avionics maker Innovative Solutions & Support for an undisclosed number of flat-panel cockpit displays that will be offered as part of an upgrade program for operators of older Citations. The installations will be available at any of the 34 Cessna Service Centers (factory and authorized) worldwide. About 4,000 Citations are candidates for the retrofit.

Honeywell’s airline support and aftermarket business gained more momentum here Sunday when the Phoenix, Arizona-based company landed a deal to supply Air New Zealand with wheels and brakes for its entire fleet of Boeing 747-400s. In January 2004, Honeywell and Lufthansa embarked on an STC program to develop new carbon friction material for the 747-400 with tailored friction and wear properties.
Through an agreement with cargo airline ABX Air of Wilmington, Ohio, avionics maker Innovative Solutions & Support announced an upgrade program for replacement of Boeing 767 cockpit screens with flat-panel liquid-crystal displays.
The first of four Boeing 767s destined for the Japan Tanker Program arrived at the modification center in Wichita, Kansas, last week for conversion into a KC-767 aerial refueler. The Japan defense agency ordered the tanker for the Japan air self defense force in 2001 after a competition between the KC-767 and the Airbus A310. Boeing plans to deliver the first Japanese KC-767 in December 2006.
As Boeing Business Jets closes in on the sale of its 100th BBJ, the company is also deep into computer concepts of an executive/VIP variant of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Boeing Business Jets is a joint venture between Boeing and General Electric and, as suggested by the name, is responsible for all business jet configurations of Boeing airliners, from the 737 through the new 787.
The pressure is on for Exton, Pa.-based Innovative Solutions & Support (IS&S), but you would never know it from talking with company marketing executives.
