Bigger is the latest goal for the interior refurbishment department at Jet Aviation’s West Palm Beach, Fla. facility. The company has announced it received FAA approval for repair-station requirements that will allow for interior refurbishment work on BBJ-size aircraft and larger.
Three-month-old interiors, mods and maintenance shop Montreal Jet Center is preparing to accept its first business jet for interior refurbishment and airframe maintenance. Its Trudeau International Airport facility in Quebec is a consortium of aviation companies, including DEM Capital, a specialist in aircraft maintenance and refurbishment, and Elisen Technologies, an aeronautics engineering firm certified as a design approval organization.
For many years, Ronald Tutor, president and CEO of construction firm Tutor-Saliba, tried to fight local restrictions preventing his Boeing Business Jet from landing at Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey, Idaho. In 2004 the airport won the lawsuit that Tutor filed, but Tutor appealed and lost again.
Boeing Business Jets selected Flightdocs of Babylon, N.Y., as a factory-authorized maintenance tracking service for BBJ operators. Flightdocs will be offered to all new BBJ operators with the delivery of their aircraft. Rick Heine, president of Flightdocs, said, “We have worked closely with Boeing to provide outstanding maintenance tracking tools for the Boeing Business Jet.
Battle lines are being drawn as Boeing Business Jets, which saw sales of its BBJ series slow to a trickle over the past couple of years, now faces the serious challenge of an aggressive competitor in a reviving economic environment.
The opening rounds came at the NBAA Convention in October when Boeing Business Jets and archrival Airbus traded barbs.

Lufthansa Technik, the Hamburg, Germany-based maintenance, overhaul and interiors completion and refurbishment giant, continues to expand its U.S. presence. First it acquired BizJet International in Tulsa, Okla., then established a nearby interiors engineering design office. Now Lufthansa has announced it will open a widebody business jet completion hangar at Tulsa International Airport.
